"Hostel Global Otreach"

Location: The Coal Office, Bagley Walk, London
Completion: Spring 2023 | Group Work
Scope: Adaptive Reuse / Hospitality

Situated within the historic Old Coal Office at King’s Cross, this project engages a site historically shaped by exchange, and infrastructural movement. Originally constructed as a Victorian coal depot serving London’s industrial expansion, the building now occupies a strategic position adjacent to Regent’s Canal and  transit node. The proposal reinterprets this legacy of mobility through a contemporary lens of global travel and cultural encounter. Conceptually framed through the metaphor of the “Message in a Floating Bottle,” the hostel is envisioned as a vessel that collects, contains, and facilitates the exchange of individual narratives. In contrast to conventional hostels that prioritize efficiency and short-term accommodation, this project positions hospitality as a spatial framework for social interaction and collective belonging.
