Global Art Districts of the Bay Area
Location: Cloverdale, Sonoma County, CA
Completion: Fall 205 | Group work
Scope: Community-Led Cultural District Revitalization
This project repositions Cloverdale as the Global Arts Village of the Bay Area by building on its existing cultural foundations rather than large-scale replacement. Through parcel-level analysis of downtown conditions, ownership patterns, and underused land, it identifies a rare Bay Area opportunity: a walkable core with the capacity to evolve without displacement. Grounded in Pomo Indigenous heritage, agricultural craft, the Russian River landscape, the project proposes an incremental district strategy—Adapt, Blend, and Reimagine that activates vacant sites, reintegrates underused buildings, and introduces fine-grain public spaces. Together, these interventions support a culturally grounded, economically viable, and sustainable arts district positioned as a regional creative anchor.
